FAQ’s
What is PRP, and how does it work?
PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is a unique injectable treatment that uses a patient’s blood. It plays a crucial role in tissue repair and new cell growth. It leverages platelets’ regenerative properties to boost collagen production, rejuvenate skin tissue, and trigger a self-renewal process within your cells. PRP initiates the healing process by releasing growth factors, resulting in softer skin, reduced wrinkles, tighter skin, and enhanced skin tone and texture.
What is the process of receiving PRP injections?
The PRP procedure is straightforward; it requires drawing a small amount of blood from the patient into a syringe. This blood sample is then processed in a specialized centrifuge to segregate its components. The platelet-rich plasma is then reinjected into the skin using microneedling.
What is the duration of a PRP treatment?
On average, a PRP treatment takes 1 to 2 hours. The duration varies based on whether PRP is administered solely through injections or microneedling. The process also accounts for an extra half hour to draw the blood, spin it in a centrifuge, and apply a topical numbing agent.
Does a PRP injection cause pain?
While undergoing a PRP reinjection, you might experience slight discomfort. Typically, patients describe this as a burning or tingling sensation that lasts for just a few minutes after injection. However, we prioritize ensuring our patients’ comfort throughout the entire PRP treatment by using topical numbing cream and ice to alleviate any discomfort.
When can you expect to see improvements from a PRP treatment?
Typically, patients observe skin tightening and a more balanced tone within a couple of weeks of receiving PRP injections. These improvements continue to amplify for up to six months after treatment.
How long will it take to see results from my PRP injections?
The effects of PRP injections can be experienced for several years post-treatment. However, these effects can differ based on the individual’s unique quality of platelet-rich plasma and lifestyle habits. Although the aging process cannot be halted, it’s certainly possible to slow it down. The longevity of the PRP injection results can be prolonged with regular and appropriate skin care at home.
Will I experience any downtime or recovery with PRP injections?
No, PRP injections typically do not require a halt to your regular routine. Nonetheless, post-procedure, it’s common for your skin to exhibit redness, which generally subsides anywhere between an hour and a full day. Minor swelling could occur in certain areas as well. Consequently, some people prefer scheduling their treatments towards the week’s end, allowing them the weekend to recuperate. Individual healing times may vary and may be prolonged when PRP injections are combined with procedures such as microneedling.
